We understand that many people loved using the alarm function in the old BOOM and MEGABOOM app and we have heard your requests for it. We are actively working on bringing back the alarm in the new BOOM 3/MEGABOOM 3 app. This will work with BOOM, BOOM 2, BOOM 3, MEGABOOM and MEGABOOM 3 products. We expect to update the app with this function by November 2018.

Bluetooth®

Out of the package, your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM is ready to pair with your first Bluetooth® device. Here’s how:

    1. Turn the speaker on by pressing the power button on the top of the speaker. The power indicator will glow white, the Bluetooth® connect button (above the power button) will blink white rapidly, and you will hear a tone indicating the speaker is ready to pair.
    2. On your device, go to the Bluetooth® menu and scan for devices (make sure Bluetooth® is enabled).
    3. Select ULTIMATE EARS BOOM from the list of devices.

A: You can double up your ULTIMATE EARS MEGABOOM and ULTIMATE EARS BOOM. However, they can only play back in standard Double Up mode, and cannot switch to Stereo mode. Using the speakers in Stereo mode won’t give you the best experience, as the sound signature for each speaker is different. Please see the Immersion Guide in the app for more details on the difference between Stereo and Double modes.
A: No, all ULTIMATE EARS BOOM models carry the same 2 year limited warranty.
A: Updating your app with the latest version should solve the issue. You can download the latest version of the app here: iOS | Android iOS link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ue-boom/id632344648?l=en&mt=8 Android link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.logitech.ueboom&hl=en
A: So you got ULTIMATE EARS BOOM as a gift and there was a custom message for you when you turned it on. Love it? Keep it forever. Not so much. No worries, you can disable the custom message via the ‘Settings’ menu on the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM mobile app. Just flip the ‘Custom Message’ switch to ‘Off’. When the message is turned off, the standard ‘Power On’ sound will take its place. To turn the message back on at any time, flip the switch back to ‘On’. A: Your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM always sets a backup alarm on both the speaker itself and on your source device, just in case something goes wrong. For Apple devices, ensure that your device's Ringer and Alert settings are enabled by sliding theChange with Buttons setting to ON. To find this setting, go to:

For iOS 5.1.1
Settings >> General >> Sounds >> Ringer and Alerts

For iOS 6.x and 7.x
Settings >> Sounds >> Ringer and Alerts

A: Just like you, we use our ULTIMATE EARS BOOM all the time. The more we used it though, the more we started to feel that the jumps in volume at the lowest volume steps were too great. Specifically, it wasn't always easy to find the 'perfect' volume–the music seemed just a little too loud or little too quiet.

To fix this, we smoothed out the volume steps to make them a little closer together and we made the increases in volume more consistent. Whereas the first few of steps previously increased the volume by an average of 8 or 9 decibels, the volume increase in the first steps now averages closer to 5 decibels. For you this means that finding the perfect volume for any song is now much easier. And don't worry, this has no discernible impact on the max volume of ULTIMATE EARS BOOM; just in how you get there. And for inquiring minds, here is a chart that demonstrates the exact differences between the previous volume steps and the new volume step.

A: You can set your alarm to repeat by selecting the “Daily Repeat” option. You can only set one alarm, however, and can not set multiple alarms for different times of day.
A: A backup alarm will play on your phone or tablet.
A: Your alarm will play on the primary ULTIMATE EARS BOOM that it was connected to when the alarm was set up. It will not play on two ULTIMATE EARS BOOMs, even if you last used them in Double Up mode.
A: When you cross different time zones, your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM alarm will NOT automatically change to the new time zone even if the clock on your phone changes. You have to adjust the alarm time in the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app manually.

A: Most music services work with the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM alarm, including popular services like Spotify and Pandora. To use a music service with the alarm:

  • Play the music you would like from music service. This can be a specific song, a playlist or a radio station.
  • Then go to the alarm settings in the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app and select “Last Music Played”.

A: If your alarm played the backup alarm sound instead of the music you selected, check the following:

  • The music service or internet radio app you selected may not have activated.Your phone may be out of range of your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM -- make sure the two devices are within 50 feet of each other.
  • The Bluetooth connection is Off on your phone or your phone is in Airplane mode -- make sure you keep the Bluetooth connection On.
  • Your phone may be off or out of battery -- make sure your phone is On (your alarm will still play if your phone is Locked)
  • Your phone may have lost the connection to the internet/network.

A: If your alarm played on your phone instead of your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM, check the following:

  • Your phone may be out of range of your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM -- make sure the two devices are within 50 feet of each other.
  • The Bluetooth connection is Off on your phone or your phone is in Airplane mode -- make sure you keep the Bluetooth connection On.
  • Your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM has no power -- be sure the battery on your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM is charged or the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM is connected to a power source.
  • Someone else is using your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM when the alarm is scheduled to go off.
A: The alarm will still go off on your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM with the back up alarm sound instead of the music you chose. To cancel the alarm, connect your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM to another phone or tablet and go through the normal alarm menu.
A: Your alarm should still activate, but it may default to the Last Music Played option (instead of specific tracks from your Music Library) or ring the back up alarm.
A: That song will repeat until you turn the alarm off. After 1 hour, the alarm will turn itself off. If you snooze your alarm, it will play for an hour from the last snooze.

On your phone or tablet:

  • Snooze by tapping the Snooze icon.
  • Turn off your alarm by swiping the arrow from left to right.

On your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM:

  • Snooze by pressing the Bluetooth button once.
  • Turn off the alarm by pressing the power button.

Snooze will delay the alarm by 10 minutes. If you don’t snooze or turn your alarm off, your music will continue to play for an hour.

A: You have two options when selecting the alarm music on your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM:

Last Music Played:

Choosing this option allows you to set the alarm music with the last song that was played from your phone or tablet. This can be music that is stored on the device itself or it can be music that was played from a music service (e.g. Spotify, Pandora, Deezer, etc). In the case of music services, you can select a specific song, a playlist or even a radio station.

My Music Library:

Choosing this option allows you to set the alarm music with any song(s) from the local music library on your phone or tablet.

A: Before you can set an alarm on your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM, you will need to make sure that you have the latest version of the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app and that your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM is up-to-date. The newest version of the app will tell you if your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM is up to date or not.

To download the app, please visit Google Play or the iOS App Store.

To update your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM, visit: www.ultimateears.com/update.

A: If your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM turns off with a “Critical Battery” message even though it’s fully charged, it's usually due to a temporary problem where the charge can’t be detected. Here's how to resolve it:

  2. Turn your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM on. NOTE: Your operating system may install USB software automatically.

If you aren't able to pair using NFC, see "Setting up ULTIMATE EARS BOOM" to pair using Bluetooth.

A: The ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app might crash on your Android device if you have two Bluetooth devices connected to your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM. To fix this issue, try the following:

  1. Disconnect the second Bluetooth device from your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM. NOTE: You can disconnect it from the Bluetooth devices menu, or turn the device’s Bluetooth connection off completely.
  2. Stop and restart the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app on the Bluetooth device you want to use.

If this doesn’t work, try the following:

  1. Turn your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM off, and then back on again.
  2. Stop and restart the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app.
First, you will need to have connected the two ULTIMATE EARS BOOMs together at least one time. If you have not done that, then they won't know to look for each other and will not connect to each other. The easiest way to do this is via the Double Up section of the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app. If they have already been Doubled Up together in the past, then perhaps you may have connected one of the two speakers to another phone or source device. In this case, you will need to Double Up again to reintroduce the two speakers to each other. If that isn't the case and your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM is not a polygamist then please make sure that both of your ULTIMATE EARS BOOMs are up to date with the new features. You can update your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM here.

If your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM is running version 5.x or 6.x, yes, it can Double Up with ULTIMATE EARS MINI BOOM. If your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM is running version 7.x or 8.x, however, no, it cannot Double Up with ULTIMATE EARS MINI BOOM.

Your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM and ULTIMATE EARS MEGABOOM Double Up in the same way as they would with another ULTIMATE EARS BOOM or ULTIMATE EARS MEGABOOM. See “Using the ULTIMATE EARS MEGABOOM Double Up feature” for more information.

Make sure your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM has the latest ULTIMATE EARS BOOM software. ULTIMATE EARS BOOM update version 7.x and 8.x allow for compatibility with ULTIMATE EARS MEGABOOM, but versions 5.x and 6.x do not. To download the latest ULTIMATE EARS BOOM update.

A: If you have two ULTIMATE EARS BOOM speakers, you can use them together to amplify your sound. Here’s how:

  1. Connect your first ULTIMATE EARS BOOM to your Bluetooth device.
  2. Open the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app and tap the “Double Up” icon.
  3. Turn on your second ULTIMATE EARS BOOM.
  4. Tap Start in the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app.
  5. Press the Bluetooth connect button on your second ULTIMATE EARS BOOM twice quickly.

The two ULTIMATE EARS BOOMs will now be connected to your Bluetooth device.

"Double Up" modes

The ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app lets you choose between these two “Double Up” modes:

  • Double - Expands the audio to the two ULTIMATE EARS BOOM speakers for double the sound.
  • Stereo - Turns the two ULTIMATE EARS BOOM speakers into Left and Right speakers (you can also swap left and right assignments using the app).

NOTE: The "Double Up" feature can only be used with one connected Bluetooth device at a time.

A: If you have multiple ULTIMATE EARS BOOM speakers connected to one or more iOS devices, you might not be able to select which speaker to use with the iOS Airplay menu.

If you have two Bluetooth sources, try disconnecting the second source and use only one source.

For the best experience, install the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM app to manage switching between speakers.

There are two ways to check your speaker’s current battery level. Button press
  • Press your speaker’s ‘plus’ and ‘minus’ buttons at the same time. An audio message will play telling you the current battery level. You can change the language of the message from within settings section of the app.

  2. Tap the +/- area on the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM on the home screen to display the battery life while your speaker is on.

To fix this issue, try the following on the device you no longer want to use:

  • Disconnect from the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM.OR
  • Turn off the Bluetooth connection.

This should allow another device to connect to your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM.

A: If your iOS device no longer connects to your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM, try the following:

A: Audio distorted or dropping out when streaming to ULTIMATE EARS BOOM

If you’re having trouble with audio distortion or drop-outs on your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM, try these suggestions:

  • Move the audio source closer – it might be out of the range of your speaker.
  • Move away from other sources of wireless signal – you could be experiencing interference.
  • Make sure your speaker has enough battery power (connect it to a power source with the supplied adapter).
  • Adjust the volume on both the audio source and your speaker.
  • Restart both your speaker and the audio source.
  • Re-pair your device with your speaker (see, "How do I pair additional Bluetooth® devices with my speaker?").
  • If you’re using two ULTIMATE EARS BOOM speakers (for Double Up), try disconnecting and streaming to one speaker only.

NOTE: If you’re streaming audio content from the internet, the issue could be with the internet connection and not your speaker.

A: The ULTIMATE EARS BOOM was designed to be used with a 3-pole (non-microphone or inline remote cable) auxiliary connector.

You may experience unexpected behavior with controls if you use a 4-pole (with inline microphone and/or inline remote) auxiliary cable. Only use a 3-pole cable with your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM.

A: The volume settings between your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM and Apple device can sometimes get out of synchronization. If this happens, try the following:

  • Turning the Bluetooth connection on your device Off, then back On again.
  • Turning your device Off, and then back On.

A: You may experience audio problems if one of the two devices keeps requesting the connection while the current device is streaming. If so, try the following:

  • Pause the stream from the second device that isn’t currently being used.
  • Turn Bluetooth off on the second device.
  • If the primary Bluetooth device is a Macintosh computer, select "Don’t use this device" from the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences.

A: Bluetooth® device not connecting to the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM

If your Bluetooth® device won’t connect to your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM, try the following:

  • Make sure your device is paired with your speaker and Bluetooth® is active (see, "How do I pair additional Bluetooth® devices with my speaker?").
  • Place your Bluetooth® device closer to the speaker – it might be out of range.
  • Move your Bluetooth® device and speaker away from other wireless sources – you could be experiencing interference.
  • If you have multiple ULTIMATE EARS BOOM speakers, make sure you’re connected to the correct one.
  • The ULTIMATE EARS BOOM can be connected to up to two devices at a time -- make sure you don’t already have three devices connected.
  • Turn your ULTIMATE EARS BOOM Off, then back On again.

NOTE: If this is the first time you’re pairing a device with your speaker, you don’t need to press the Bluetooth® connection button. It comes out of the box ready to pair.

A: Using the ULTIMATE EARS BOOM with multiple connected devices

For the best experience, we recommend connecting to one speaker through Bluetooth. However, industry-wide, for all Bluetooth devices, there will always be some latency (audio lag) when viewing videos, and the amount of the audio latency is specific to the video application and OS. The lowest latency, with a single speaker, is around 250 milliseconds. To most people, this is not a noticeable latency that negatively affects the video viewing experience.

We have been informed by some customers that there is a noticeable latency that negatively affects the video viewing experience when connecting the speaker to a 3.5mm auxiliary cable. We are actively working to identify a solution to this issue and will update our website FAQs, Google Play and Apple App stores.
